Solo Excursions
I decided to create a digital-only release of selected tracks from the last several years that represent many of the different directions my improvisation practice and live/fixed electronics have been going. All of the tracks have been shared previously on SoundCloud, but I curated a representative sampling and had Troy Sales master them for this release on Bandcamp. Available for download FREE (or name your price :) so check it out and let me know what you think.
Bandcamp is so easy to use, and is a great way to share more collected/curated things, so I anticipate using it more in the coming years as a way to release “collections” of tracks I may have already shared, but which might get lost in the digital sprawl. It was fun to collaborate with my son Jack on the cover, which features his photography, layout, and design—all from photos he took in an abandoned house South of us and towards a canyon, from a nighttime exploratory expedition with his friends.
Many of the tracks were created with the help of my trusty Trigger Finger Max patch, the latest versions being created by my friend and former student Brad Korth (based on my original design/creation). A few tracks feature my explorations into using Symbolic Sound’s Kyma System with my trombone—what I’ve called “Kybone” studies. Most of the tracks feature my typical aggressive and spastic approach to live electronic improv, though the trombone tracks are usually more chill, and a few of the tracks (these will stand out) actually include steady grooves/beats…try not to be too surprised. And now it’s time to get back to curating the recordings Christian and I made with Oguz Buyukberber, and also finish adding effects and fixed media files to Motor Culture.
