RICKSPLUND with Oğuz Büyükberber

Netherlands-based clarinetist/synthesizerist/composer Oğuz Büyükberber joined RICKSPLUND for a concert and recording session in September 2023. Here’s a segment from the concert—plans for a formal album release on TryTone are underway.

Solo improv with found objects and mics

Here’s a track from my Comprovise Records release Available Resonances that features some recorded improvisation with found objects (a Dr. Pepper can and a Coke bottle in this case), amplified using some good ole Radio Shack electret mics running through a Max delay patch.

An oldie but a goodie…

Anthology is a Barlow-commissioned piece from back in 2008 that is close to my heart—inspired by some of my favorite rock/pop artists, including Talking Heads, Kate Bush, The Pixies, and Radiohead. The tracks here are from a recording session I did with Portland, OR-based fEAR no Music, a great group that included former classmate Joel Belgique (violist extraordinaire). For various reasons I’ve never released this recording commercially, and the piece has only been played by that group…anyone interested in taking a stab at it?

My first woodwind quintet :-)

Written for Orpheus Winds at BYU, Pneumatic Metrology is my first attempt at writing for woodwind quintet. I’m working my way, gradually, through all the standard chamber ensembles…brass quintet, I have my eyes/ears on you next!

Jimi Hendrix-inspired piece for chamber orchestra

Written for the Utah Arts Festival orchestra, a pick-up group conducted by Andrew Rindfleish, this piece takes as its inspiration “Voodoo Chile” from the Hendrix album Electric Ladyland. Thanks to John Costa for the invitation…I don’t do a lot of large(r) ensemble work so this was a welcome opportunity. At some point I might expand this piece and see if anyone else might be interested in tackling it.
