Motor Culture update…
I received a 2019 Barlow Commission to write a piece for SPLICE Ensemble, what eventually turned into Motor Culture for trumpet, piano, percussion, and electronics. The SPLICErs (Sam Wells, Keith Kirchoff, and Adam Vidiksis) recorded it almost two years ago in summer 2022 in David Pasbrig’s cool studio in Philadelphia. After some unexpected delays, the recording is now edited and sounds GREAT! One of my projects this summer is to add the fixed media and live electronic components to the edited recording of the acoustic instruments and pass it back to the ensemble for it to get mastered, and then hopefully released on an album in the near future. If you you ever have a chance to hear, host, or work with SPLICE Ensemble, I highly recommend it. My former student and friend, Brad Korth, made a cool Max patch for me for the piece, and is helping me modify it so I can use the stems of the studio recording to generate some effects for the final, recorded version. Stay tuned for details on its release, etc.
