The Steve Ricks Music Blog begins…some current activities…

We’ll see how this goes, but I’d like to start recording some notes, thoughts, and feelings related to my current and future music projects, and perhaps fold in a few things from my personal life as well :). I’ve been doing some source recording for my current Barlow commission—a piece for contrabass flute for Ned McGowan. I’ll have the privilege of writing the piece while living in Amsterdam this fall and will work closely with Ned towards its completion. Beginning with some environmental recordings using an audio technica shotgun mic with the pvc pipes you see in the pic attached to this post…just trying an analog approach to creating different frequencies through different lengths of pipe. Hoping to mix these environmental recordings with some close/internal mic-ing of Ned’s flute. We’ll see…
